Obituary for Denise M. Lindheimer (Carroll)

Ballston Spa – Denise M. (Carroll) Lindheimer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family’s love. She was 72 years old.

Denise was born in Troy, NY on February 13, 1947 and was the daughter of the late John Carroll, Sr. and Mary Cronin Carroll. She was raised and educated in Watervliet and was a graduate of Watervliet High School.

Denise was devoted to the Watervliet community and caring for its youth and elderly residents. She dedicated a large part of her life sharing her talent as a hair stylist, caring for children and to fundraising efforts. When it came to helping children, she believed that it took a village to raise a child and she demonstrated that through her involvement with the Watervliet Civic Center, Pop Warner Football, the Maplewood PTA, and helping to lead fundraising events for various youth-related causes in the community. She cared enough for others that she would have given them the shirt off of her back if they had needed it. For Denise, her doors were always open. Many would say Denise had a profound influence on them growing up; she had a strong character, a heart of gold, and the ability to knock you into next Tuesday if you were out of line.

When her husband Henry served as a firefighter with the Watervliet Fire Department, and for many years later, Denise helped prepare for the annual Christmas festivities at the fire house by making sure Santa's suit was pressed and cleaned, hair and beard were properly manicured and always completed Santa's (Lindy Look) with his antique spectacles. This was one of many of Denise's holiday traditions that she adored and cherished and it was her little part in helping to make the children in Watervliet beam with excitement. She always loved doing things for others.

Denise enjoyed traveling with her family. She loved cruising and her trips to Las Vegas and Foxwoods Casino. She found joy in weekend camping trips to Jellystone Park and Mt. Kenyon Campground when the girls were young. Denise loved to cook for family and friends and she enjoyed the planning and preparations when hosting grand celebrations. She would spend hours watching cooking shows and jotting down recipes to try.

Denise loved the time spent with her family and friends. She was especially proud of all of her grandchildren and enjoyed hearing about their school day, their activities, and the sporting events they participated in. She was devout in her faith and loved her family with all of her heart. In turn, they returned that love and filled her heart with pride.

Denise’s family offers a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Saratoga Hospital and especially to Dr. Numan Rashid for the care given to Denise and comfort offered to her family during her illness.

Denise was the beloved wife, for 43 years, to the late Henry J. Lindheimer; cherished mother of Christina M. (Jeff) Lindheimer-DiNuzzo of Ballston Spa, Carol M. (Joe) Salerno of Ballston Spa, Mary Alice (Chris) Hipwell of Latham and Ann Marie (Nick) Dillenbeck of Watevliet; proud and caring grandmother of Kennedy and Ryan Salerno, Gabriella, Nathan, Alex and Cole DiNuzzo, Aiden and Hannah Hipwell, Ian and Nikki Dillenbeck; sister of, Ann (late Michael) Kerin, Helen (late Carl) Kuentzel, Brian (Nadina) Carroll, Jeanne Proctor, Michael (Kathy) Carroll, Mary Jo Carroll and the late Arthur (Beverly) Carroll, John (Julie) Carroll, Thomas (Diane) Carroll, Patricia (George) Sibinich, Rosemary (James) Perkins and Judith Carroll. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 am in St. Ambrose Church, Latham. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Denise’s family at the Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet on Saturday, prior to the Mass, from 8 am until 10 am. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colonie. Contributions, in memory of Denise, may be made to the Watervliet Civic Center, P.O. Box 164, Watervliet, NY 12189.
