Obituary for Tin-Wen "Gillian" Duan

Tin-Wen (Gillian) Duan
04/21/1992 - 03/19/2020

Tin-Wen (Gillian) Duan was a Taiwanese food scientist and research scholar passionate about finding healthy food and packaging solutions to create a sustainable world. She was the only daughter of proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. Duan, of Taipei, Taiwan and a beloved member of the International House global leadership community in New York City. Gillian was educated in Taipei at the Fu Jen Catholic University, where she earned a Bachelor of Food Science and in the United States at Drexel University, Philadelphia, where she earned a Master’s degree in Food Science. She researched green packaging solutions, analyzed the impacts of pesticide use, and created pumpkin and sesame ice cream for kids and “kids at heart”.

Gillian volunteered her time as a leader in the Indonesia International Volunteer Teaching Organization, and as a member of the International Service Committee-Rotary Lungmen Club, where she held international and cultural exchange activities and participated in international youth projects. In her spare time Gillian could be found swinging to Latin and Ballroom dance tunes and contributing to the mission of the House dedicated to cross-cultural exchange and training of the next generation of global leaders in a value-based culture of respect, empathy and moral courage. Gillian graced International House with her light. International House community extends its heart and prayers to her family and all those who loved her.

Funeral services are private at the convenience of the family.
