Obituary for Geraldine Derocher (Sawyer)

Schaghticoke – Geraldine Derocher, 76, of Schaghticoke passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 after a long illness at Albany Medical Center.

Born in Cohoes, NY, Geraldine was one of eighteen children born to Gordon and June Sawyer. She spent many years of her life as a foster parent for Rensselaer County and the most recent years of her life as a homemaker and devout parishioner of Grace Fellowship Church in Latham. She had a heart of gold, a smile that could light up any room and a sense of humor like no other. When asked, her children and family describe her as supportive, caring, loving, funny, trustworthy, and sweet; with a love of God near saintly.

Geraldine was predeceased by her parents Gordon and June; her loving husband Arthur Derocher Jr.; as well as her siblings, Mary (Vito) Cerulli, Gordon (Kandie) Sawyer, Sheila (Andrew) Ehring, Gerald (Joann) Sawyer, Diane Kelly and Daniel Sawyer. She is survived by her children, Tim (Cassandra) Rossi, Gene Rossi, Timothy and Zachariah Pysher, Jay, Jadine, Brianna, Tyler and Justen Derocher; her grandchildren, June (Timothy) Delisle, Amanda Cooper-Brunick, Gene Rossi, Timothy and Victoria Rossi; her siblings, Bonita (George) Washburn, Sharon (Lee) Czechowicz, Linda (John) White, Starr (David) LeBlanc, Sue (Kevin) Susie, Rocky (Lillian) Sawyer, Tina (Jerry) Giroux, Faron (Judy) Sawyer, Frank (Dawn) Sawyer, Jesse (Ginny) Sawyer, Richard (Holly) Sawyer and many great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends

Friends are invited to visit with Geraldine’s family on Sunday from 2 until 5 pm at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. A graveside interment service will be held on Monday at 10 am in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oakwood Avenue, Troy.

To those who wish to remember Geraldine in a special way, her family suggests donations to the Office of Children and Family Services of Rensselaer County in care of Parker Brothers Memorial.
