Obituary for Joseph Francis Mackey

Watervliet - Joseph F. Mackey, 84, of Watervliet, NY died on Tuesday, January 12 after a brief illness. He was married to Maryanne (White) Mackey, his wife of 52 years, who passed away in July 2013. He was born in Troy, NY the son of the late Patrick J and Kathryn (Burns) Mackey.

Joe attended Troy High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from February 1954 and was Honorably Discharged January 1957. He was an avid New York Yankees and New England Patriots fan. He worked for United Parcel Service as a long-haul truck driver and worked for 20 years in the I LOVE NY information/brochure visitors center prior to his retirement in 2010. He and his wife owned a bar in Watervliet for several years. He was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Watervliet. Joe always had a smile on his face and kind word for everyone. His favorite saying was "I’m a South Troy Irish Catholic Democrat.”

Joe is survived by his beloved daughter Sue Mackey of Albany. Also survived by his siblings, Margaret (James) Suriano of Sidney, NY, and Thomas (Joann) Mackey of Halfmoon; sister-in-law Elizabeth Ann (William) Fish of Watervliet, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Mackey Louden and her husband Thomas Louden and brother F. Eugene Mackey and his wife Donna Mackey.

Due to COVID-19, at the request of the family there will be no viewing and the funeral services will be private. Entombment will take place at St Agnes Mausoleum in Menands, NY. Thank you to family and friends for their devoted love and support.
