Obituary for Mary Jane Connor

Albany – Mary Jane (Howe) Connor, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at St. Peter’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. Jane was born in Cleveland, NY. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Loretta (DeLollo) Howe; and was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Edward J. Connor.

Jane was a 1957 graduate of Watervliet High School and would go on to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from The College of St. Rose. She began her teaching career at School 9 in Watervliet, when a fellow teacher, Ed Connor, caught her eye and would later become her husband of 50 years. While she and Ed were raising their children, Jane spent many years sharing her time as a substitute teacher, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer at her parish and her children’s schools as well as their extracurricular activities. She later returned to teaching full-time, serving as a Pre-K teacher at the St. Catherine of Siena (Mater Christi) School for more than 15 years before retiring in 2009.

She and her husband Ed were season ticket holders for RPI Hockey for more than 30 years, making life-long friends with many of the fans around them. Jane loved planting, gardening, and traveling, especially her summer vacations to Lake George. She was the proud companion of her late dogs, Sparky, Murphy and Jasper. Jane's Catholic faith was a very important part of her life, and she was a committed and active parishioner. The most important thing in life to Jane was her family and doting on her beloved grandchildren.

She was the devoted mother of Edward J. (Jennifer) Connor III of Stow, Mass. and Annie (Thomas) Frame of Albany; proud grandmother of Jessica A. Flynn, Sean E. Connor and Brynn R. Connor; daughter-in-law of the late Edward and Rosemary Connor; and sister of Ann Riley and her husband, the late John R. Riley of Wellesley, Mass. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and dear friends.

Those wishing to remember Jane in a special way can make memorial contributions in her name to the Mater Christi School, 35 Hurst Ave. Albany, NY 12208.

Funeral services for Jane will be private to the family for in-person attendance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jane on Saturday February 13th at 11 am and will be streamed live and can be viewed on the Mater Christi Parish Youtube page at https://www.youtube.com/c/parishofmaterchristi Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet.
