Obituary for Gertrude E. Pouchak (Kasper)

Brunswick – Gertrude E. Pouchak, age 99, entered eternal life on February 5, 2021 at Maple Leaf Health Care in Statesville, NC. Born in Springfield, MA on October 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Gilbert Kasper.

Gertrude was a 1939 graduate of Mechanicville High School and a 1943 graduate of the College of St. Rose. She later earned her Master’s Degree in education and went on to teach at School 17 and later, School 16 in Troy. When not at work, Gertrude enjoyed many adventures with her husband, Paul. Together they loved to go skiing, golfing, and polka dancing. They traveled all over to go to polka festivals and won many awards in doing so. Their traveling didn’t stop there however, as they took many trips to Germany, Greece, Spain, and cruises throughout the Mediterranean. They also enjoyed spending the winter months in Naples, Florida to escape the cold of the northeast. Gertrude always kept up on the latest technologies, staying tech-savvy well into her 90s. This helped her to keep in touch with her family all over the country. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Paul Pouchak, who passed away in 2009. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Osganian of Sherrills Ford, NC and Richard Pouchak of Malta, her grandchildren; Susan (Michael) Barner of North Carolina, Nancy (Tony) Poulos of Texas, Matt Osganian of Maryland, Greg (Jennifer) Osganian of North Carolina, Lauren Pouchak of Boston, Andrea (Tim) McEwen of Los Angeles, and Evan Pouchak of Los Angeles, and her great-grandchildren; Anna, Andrew, Nolan, Ava, Eden, and Eamon.

Gertude’s funeral services will be held privately for her family. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Gertrude in a special way may consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.
