Obituary for James A. "Jimmy" Tracey

WATERVLIET – James A. “Jimmy” Tracey, 84, died peacefully Sunday, March 7, 2021 at his home.

He was born in Troy on February 12, 1937, the son of the late Dennis and Margaret McAvoy Tracey. He was raised in Watervliet and graduated from St. Patrick’s School and LaSalle Institute in Troy.

Earlier in his life, he was employed by NYS Dept. of Mail & Supply and the Ford Motor Co. He then was employed by Behr-Manning and later the Norton Company in the making room for over 37 years before retiring in 1999.

Jimmy was an avid golfer and loved playing with all his golf buddies as he chewed on his famous cigar. He was a huge NY Yankees, NY Giants and Notre Dame football fan.

He was a communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church and currently was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet.

Jimmy walked Boght Road early every morning to go to Bob’s Diner in Watervliet to meet his friends for the Early Morning Club. A picture of Jimmy hangs over his favorite booth near the front window of the diner.

He is the beloved brother of Elizabeth “Betty” Tracey of Watervliet. He was predeased by his siblings, Walter Tracey, Leo F. “Homer” Tracey, Raymond R. (late Jean) Tracey, Joseph E. (wife Frances survives) Tracey, Earl and Ann Tracey and William and John Joseph Tracey. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at 12 noon at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Matthew H. Frisoni officiating. Friends may call prior to the service on Wednesday from 11 am – 12 noon. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189.
