Obituary for Patricia Maron (Mullaney)

Clifton Park – Patricia “Pat” Maron, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones who will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Pat was born in Watervliet, NY, the second of seven children born to Helena (Tacelli) and Richard Mullaney. Bright, social and full of fun, she was a popular and gorgeous high school student, and was the Watervliet High School Prom Queen for all four years of high school. But it was Pat’s inner beauty that was even more remarkable. Pat’s great empathy, huge heart and serene nature drew people to her always. To know Pat was to love her and she helped so many people over the years. She met her future husband, Phil Maron, during her senior year of high school. The high school sweethearts became engaged after graduation and married upon Phil’s return from his service in the Korean War Air Force Division in 1955. Theirs was a love story that lasted for 70 years.

In 1959, Pat began her role as a mother with the births of her three children. She was a devoted and loving mother who always put the needs of her family first. In 1970, Patricia began her pursuit of a meaningful career when she graduated from Albany Business School and started working in the New York State Legislature shortly thereafter. Pat’s strong work ethic enabled her to work her way up her career ladder. Initially employed as a secretary, Pat eventually ascended to a Senior Staff member for State Senator Michael Tully. During her tenure working for Senator Tully, Pat was involved in drafting numerous pieces of legislation. Some of these included the Child Health Plus Program in 1991, which expanded health benefits to children, as well as the ban on smoking in public buildings. Subsequently, Pat was instrumental in drafting a bill restricting use of restraints in nursing homes. She was acknowledged by Senator Tully, in the Legislative Chamber, upon passage of this law for her diligent work on it. Pat also worked on funding efforts towards St. Jude’s Hospital.

In 1995, following the birth of her first grandchild, Pat retired to spend more time with her family. Pat was honored at her retirement party with Senatorial Resolution to commend her for her many accomplishments. Upon her retirement, Pat enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling and being with her beloved Bichon, Lilly. Her lifelong love of nature, especially the Adirondacks, led her to spending much of her time on Lake George. She made many friends in her condominium community there, serving on the board and enjoying the serenity of the mountains with Phil, friends and family and her beloved Lilly always by her side.

Pat is survived by her husband Phil Maron, her siblings; Carol Ashline, Linda Mullaney and John Mullaney, her children; Phil Maron, Jr., Helana Saunders (Mitchell), and Mark Maron, her grandchildren; Miles Saunders (Magdalena), Miranda Saunders and many nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her siblings; Dick Mullaney, Phyllis Ackerman and Gene Mullaney. Services will be private due to current circumstances. The family will be planning a memorial service and gathering to honor Pat at the appropriate time.
