Obituary for James T. "Cash" Cashman Sr.

MENANDS – James T. Cashman, Sr., 75, died peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Berkshire Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in Sandisfield, MA.

He was born in Troy, NY, on July 5, 1945, the son of the late David R. and Victoria Ann Salvi Cashman. He was raised in Menands and attended Menands School and graduated from CBA in Albany and Siena College in Loudonville. He was a proud veteran of the US Marines serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Jim became the owner of his grandfather’s business “Cashman’s Florist” on Cemetery Avenue in Menands until it closed in 1977. He later was employed by the NYS Department of Taxation & Finance as an accountant before retiring in 1997.

In his younger years, Jim was a member of the Menands VFW, he enjoyed gardening and working around his greenhouse and loved lounging in the hammock at Hadlock Pond. In his later years, Jim enjoyed listening to music (he loved his ABBA), sipping ice coffees and reading the New York Post. Jim was a quiet, gentle soul with a love for science and a great sense of humor. He was a proud father and grandfather. He was grateful to have nine grandchildren and took great pleasure in watching them grow and had great pride in their achievements.

He is survived by his former wife and loving friend, Dorothy Fort Cashman, his children, J.T. (Doreen Sheridan) Cashman of Clifton Park, Michael (Jennifer) Cashman of East Greenbush, Sharyn (Carlos) Freitas and Lisa (Greg) Rodriguez both of Clifton Park; his grandchildren Joseph Daley and Mikayla Cashman; Nicholas, Matthew and Grace Cashman; Joshua and Jason Freitas; and Haley and Tyler Rodriguez. He is also survived by his brother John J. Cashman of Westfield, MA and his family.

Funeral services will be private for the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Berkshire Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center for all of the love and care they provided to “Cash” for the many years he resided there.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berkshire Rehabilitation Better Life Fund, 7 Sandisfield Road, Sandisfield, MA 01255.
