Obituary for Cynthia J. Schoonmaker (Farnham)

GRANVILLE – Cynthia J. Farnham Schoonmaker, 84, formerly of Watervliet, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home at her son Bob’s house with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Troy on March 9, 1937, the daughter of the late William and Ethel Davis Farnham. She was raised in Watervliet and graduated from School 9 and Watervliet High School, class of 1954 where she met her high school sweetheart, Bob Schoonmaker, Sr.

Cynthia was a homemaker raising her three children before returning to work for the NYS Dept. of Higher Education in Albany in the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for 37 years before retiring.

She was very active and loved being a member of the Watervliet High School Dad’s Club along with her husband while her children were in high school.

She enjoyed shopping, sitting outside on the patio at her son’s home and attending all of her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

She was the wife of the late Robert J. Schoonmaker, Sr. who died in 2018; loving mother of Kimberly (David) Abbott of Baldwinsville, NY, Wendy (Lawrence) Henderson of Watervliet and Robert J. (Dorie) Schoonmaker, Jr. of Granville; adored grandmother of Andrew (Bri) Henderson, Erica (Dane Dudman) Schoonmaker, Erin (Kevin) Smith, Rachel (Tyler) Kelly, Renee (Mark) Connor and Andrew Abbott; great grandmother of Raegan Kelly, Dallas Henderson, Maison Dudman, Grant Connor, Eloise Smith, Landon Henderson, Everly Smith and Zoey Dudman; sister of Carole (Jim) Geary, Ethelyn (Chester) Sapino and the late William (Dominga) Farnham, Beverly (Edward) Kemp and Phyllis (John) Osgood. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 am at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Colonie (procession will meet just inside the main entrance).
