Obituary for John B. Ebenhoch Jr.

WATERVLIET – John B. Ebenhoch, Jr., 61, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Albany Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was born August 17, 1959, the oldest son of John B. and Evelyn A. Smith Ebenhoch, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School and Watervliet High School, class of 1977 where he played football and track.

John graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 1979 and enlisted in the US Navy for 6 years serving aboard submarines before his discharge in 1985. He then served 20 years in the US Navy Reserves retiring in 2005 as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his discharge, John returned to college and received his bachelor’s degree in Finance at SUNY Brockport in 1987. He was currently employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Albany for the past 35 years as a revenue officer.

John was very active in the Watervliet community serving as the President of the Watervliet Little League, the Watervliet Pop Warner and the treasurer of the Watervliet High Dad’s Club. He was a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks and participated in its Dart League, Watervliet AOH, Watervliet VFW Post #729, American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association and the Capital District Chief Petty Officers Association.

He is the beloved husband of 32 years of Meg B. Leonard Ebenhoch; devoted father and the best dad of Thomas (Maggie Maloney) Ebenhoch of North Greenbush, Patrick (Alysa Chartrand) Ebenhoch and Bridget Ebenhoch both of Watervliet; loving brother of Colleen Gauney of Brunswick, Cathleen (James) McGovern of Latham and James B. (Michele) Ebenhoch of Fairport, NY; brother in law of Helen (Anthony) LaRocco of Norfolk, VA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 7th at 9:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet. Interment will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 6th from 4-7 pm.
