Obituary for Joanne O'Neill (Kosinski)

WATERVLIET – Joanne (Kosinski) O’Neill passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the age of 81.

Born in Albany on February 27, 1940, Joanne was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Zabielski) Kosinski. Joanne’s formative years were spent in Albany and she was a graduate of Albany High School. On November 23, 1963, Joanne was married to her beloved husband, Brian O’Neill, and together they celebrated more than 57 years of marriage.

Joanne and Brian resided in the Port Schuyler section of Watervliet for more than 51 years and raised their family there. She was a 23 year employee of the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany from where she retired in 2003. Joanne was a member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and was a strong supporter of the organization’s clothe-a-child program. She was a long-time communicant of the former St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet. Joanne enjoyed the times spent with her children and grandchildren; singing, with her husband, in a volunteer group and entertaining residents in retirement homes; being with her dog, Duke; beach vacations with her family; plants and flowers; reading and watching mysteries and getting together with family and friends.

In addition to her husband Brian, Joanne is survived by her children, Patti O’Neill-Brown and her husband, Doug Brown, Tom O'Neill and his wife Tammi O’Neill and Brian O’Neill; her grandchildren, Casey and Kerry O’Neill and Lara and Alex Brown; her sister, Marlene Gonzalez and her husband Ralph Gonzalez; her brother, Ed Kosinski and his wife JoAnn Kosinski; her cousin, Lydia Kosinski as well as six nieces, five nephews and many other cousins. In addition to her parents, Joanne was pre-deceased by her sister, Joyce Spratt and her husband Dick Spratt.

A funeral Mass for Joanne will be celebrated by the Reverend Donald L. Rutherford on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 9:30 am in The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet. (Remote viewing of the Mass available on the Parker Bros. Memorial Facebook page) Interment and Rite of Committal will follow at 11:30 am in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Joanne’s family on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 4 until 7 pm at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. All current Covid-19 safeguards will be required by all guests at each venue.

In lieu of customary remembrances and in consideration of the cemetery’s current restrictions relating to flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be made to the Elks National Foundation (www.elks.org) in memory of Joanne O’Neill.
