Obituary for James J. "Jim" Connors

WATERVLIET – James J. Connors, 93, died peacefully May 6, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 5, 1928, the son of James F. and Mary Reilly Connors. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School in Watervliet and Watervliet High School.

Jim was employed as a bricklayer and construction manager throughout New York State for 75 years. At the end of his career, he worked in his own community at the Watervliet Housing Authority. Jim served in the United States Army from 1950-1952. He was a combat veteran in the Korean War.

Jim was an active lifelong communicant and volunteer of St. Patrick’s Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church both in Watervliet. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus holding several local, regional and state offices. Jim loved life especially gatherings of family and friends.

Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia B. Connors on February 24, 2021. They were happily married for 66 years. Jim is survived by his sisters Mary Vogel and Norma Keating. He was predeceased by his brother Patrick Connors and his sister Sr. Mary Immaculate Heart P.V.M. He was the devoted father of Marypat (Jim) Murtagh and James B. (CareyAnn) Connors; adored grandfather of Anna Kate (Jeffrey) Connolly, Patrick (Nicole) Murtagh, Joseph (Katelyn) Murtagh, Hope, Jennie Ann and Callie Ann Connors; great-grandfather of Lucas and Julia Connolly, and Camryn and Addison Murtagh. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Donald L. Rutherford, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Ave. on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
