Obituary for Michael J. Prendergast Jr.

COHOES - Michael J Prendergast, aged 83, of Cohoes has joined his brothers and sisters in the Kingdom of Heaven. Mike died of cancer May 30, 2021 at the Community Hospice Inn at St Peter's Hospital surrounded in peace by his wife Keitha and children Michael, Susan and Danny.

Mike was born and raised on 8th Avenue in Watervliet, and was the son of Michael J and Grace Bott Prendergast, and shared his memories of growing up there with us often. Mike was long time resident of Cohoes, a graduate of Watervliet High School, Albany Business College, and was proud to serve his country with the United States Coast Guard.

As an employee of Niagara Mohawk for 43 years, Mike was employed as a Trouble Dispatcher and later an Operations Clerk in Troy Electric. He also was a proud employee and Board Member of the Niagara Mohawk Troy Credit Union for 30 years. Mike was a 57 year member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge 1500 and was a proud member of the American Legion Mohawk Post No. 1450 in Halfmoon, serving as Post Adjutant and as Secretary of the Board of Directors for many years.

Mike was an avid NY Giants fan, and had personally seen them play in Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl, Shea Stadium, Giants Stadium and Met Life Stadium, and was lucky enough to see them beat the Buffalo Bills in person at Super Bowl 25 in Tampa.

Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He and Keitha loved their many trips to Aruba, Atlantic City, and especially looked forward to their yearly trips, 59 yearly trips, to Goose Rocks Beach in Maine, with all their family.
Mike and Keitha recently celebrated 60 years of marriage together, a COVID celebration surrounded with their loving family.

Mike is survived by his wife Keitha (Sherman) Prendergast, his children Michael (Corinne), Susan, and Daniel (Catherine), forever loving grandchildren Michael, Ryan (Erin), Tyler, Erin, McKenzie and Haley, and adored great grandchildren Michael, Avery, Olivia and Riley. Mike will also be missed by a host nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Mike was predeceased by his parents as well as his siblings Grace (Bernie Taggart), John (Joan who survives), William (Connie), Doris (Vince Smith) and Kathleen (Paul Bisio who survives).

The funeral will be Monday at 11:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 12 noon at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 122 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-6 pm.

In lieu of flowers and due to cemetery restrictions, contributions are suggested to the Community Hospice Inn, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208. The family would like to express their thanks for the dignity and care by the entire staff shown to our dad and the compassion they showed to our family.
