Obituary for Lorraine E. McGrath (Aurelius)

TROY – Lorraine E. Aurelius McGrath, 85, formerly of the Kane Apartments, died peacefully Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the home of her son Dan and daughter in law Kathy in Watervliet. Lorraine was the daughter of the late Harold and Eleanor Smith Aurelius.

She was raised, educated and lived in Troy most of her life before moving to Watervliet 5 years ago. She was employed by NY Telephone Co. for a brief time. She later was employed by RPI in Troy as the office coordinator in the Environmental Engineering Department for over 25 years before retiring in 1996.

She served as a Deacon at the Cornerstone Community Church in Lansingburgh.

She was the wife of the late Donald Patrick McGrath, beloved mother of Susan (Arthur) Gagnon of Poestenkill, Daniel (Kathleen) McGrath of Watervliet, Kathleen (Marty) Ho of Richfield, CT, Patricia (Raymond Hart) Flexer of Troy and Robert McGrath of Troy; sister of Gladys Owens of Troy and the late Ruth and Marion Wells, Richard and James Aurelius: step-sister to William Desnoyers and the late Helen Desnoyers. She was predeceased by her longtime companion and travel partner, Douglas Ladd. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine loved to travel and enjoyed going to concerts, state theater and classic movies. She enjoyed the music of Willie Nelson and Elvis Presley.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, July 16th at 1:00 pm at the Oakwood Cemetery, Troy (procession will gather at the Oakwood Avenue entrance). A reception will occur at the Watervliet AOH, 1021 9th Avenue, Watervliet immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205 or to The Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

Arrangements are by the Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet.
