Obituary for Daniel J. Murphy
WATERVLIET – Daniel J. Murphy, 79, died peacefully Friday, July 16, 2021 at his home in Watervliet. He was born in Troy on April 30, 1942, the son of the late Daniel J. and R. Mildred Jordan Murphy.
Dan was a lifelong resident of Watervliet. He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy and Siena College in Loudonville. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was employed by the Golub Corporation for over 45 years as a store manager at various Price Chopper locations before retiring in 2003.
He was an avid NY Yankees, NY Giants and Siena College basketball fan. He spent his summers at his camp on Schroon River in the Adirondacks. Dan and Mary Beth enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Alaska, Italy and Spain. He looked forward to Tuesday Pinochle card nights accompanied with Purple Pub pizza with Kevin Barry, Dennis & Dave McCann and the late Kevin McCann.
He was the loving companion of over 40 years of Mary Beth “Mince McCann” Barry of Watervliet and her children, Bridget (Mauro Marinelli) Barry of Slaterville Springs, NY, Kevin (Karyn) Barry of Glenmont and Megan (Billy) Broomfield of Fairport, NY; grandpa of Delaney and Kennedy Broomfield, Matthew and Kylie McKenna; brother of the late Richard Murphy; brother in law of Annette (Jim) Facteau, Dave (Nancy) McCann, James (Sherron) McCann, Therese McCann, Dennis (Rita) McCann and the late Kevin (Nancy survives) McCann.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:45 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Donald L. Rutherford officiating. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:00 am–10:45 am.
