Obituary for RoseMarie Kotansky (O'Grady)

WATERVLIET – RoseMarie O’Grady Kotansky, CSJA, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at home with her family beside her.

She was born in Troy, NY and was the daughter of the late James and Frances McGivern O’Grady. RoseMarie attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School in Troy, Troy High School and received a BA degree in Public Administration from the State University of New York.

RoseMarie worked for NYS Dept. of Civil Services for 42 years as a Senior Municipal Personnel Consultant, Program Assistant for Computerization of Testing Services, and Supervisor of Examination Processing Administration.

She was a member of the following professional organizations; International Personnel Management Association (IPMA), Latham Business and Professional Women’s Organization (BPW), proud member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Seton Health Auxiliary and former manager of the Gift Gallery. She was an active member of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Parish and currently a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, both parishes in Watervliet, NY.

She was proud to be an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, serving in various committees and especially loved working with the O’Grady Clan for 15 years on the famous Ziti Dinners. She was the past chaplain and member for 30 years of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians of Troy where she received the Mother Teresa Award.

RoseMarie’s beloved husband of 38 years, Max Kotansky died in 1990. From the first time he saw “Rosie O’Grady” he fell in love with her when she was just 16 years old.

RoseMarie is survived by her siblings, Patricia M. O’Grady, CSJA, Francis O’Grady, John L. “Butch” (Elaine) O’Grady, Edward J. O’Grady, Sr. and the late Margaret McCarthy, Elizabeth A. Vaughan, Mary Alice Doyle, Max O’Grady and James O’Grady. She is also survived by her lifelong dear friend, Jean H. Brahm and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Donald L. Rutherford, Pastor. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 pm.
