Obituary for Gregory James Kearns

Watervliet – Gregory James Kearns, 74, passed away at home on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Born in Troy on May 21, 1947, he was the son of the late George and Estelle (Zaremba) Kearns.

Greg grew up on 8th Ave. in Watervliet and was a 1965 graduate of Watervliet High School. As a kid, he enjoyed spending his summers at the family farm in Columbia County. Greg enlisted in the US Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Most of his active duty enlistment was served in Germany. While there, he specialized in providing healthcare for the Army and once he returned home he became a member of the Army Reserves. Greg was a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Kindred Hospital in Houston and also worked as a driver for Enterprise. In his free time, Greg loved spending time with his family and friends and was never one to miss a celebration. He enjoyed spending summers at the family camp at Brant Lake, telling stories and making everyone laugh. He also took delight in traveling, golfing, skiing, theater, concerts, movies, shopping for bargains, animals, and most importantly, food.

Greg is survived by his children; Rebekka Kearns of Houston, Brian (April) Kearns of Colonie, and Peter Kearns of Watervliet, his grandchildren, Alyssa and Tyler Kearns, his sister Joan Edwards of Latham, his nephew David Edwards of Albany, his niece Candace (Timothy) Galarneau of Princetown, and relatives from the Zaremba family, as well as many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Loyde and niece Michele Edwards.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 5 until 7 PM at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, Watervliet. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 9:30 AM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery.
