Obituary for Helen M. Welsh

Helen M. (Hurley) Welsh, of Loudonville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at her residence. Raised in Watervliet, Helen was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Hurley and Helen (Mace) Hurley.

Helen was married to the late Thomas T. Welsh, her beloved husband for 53 wonderful years. She is survived by her cherished daughters Diane Welsh French of Dedham, MA, and Suzanne Welsh Murphy, and her husband Robert J. Murphy, of Loudonville and Port St. Lucie, FL; two devoted grandsons, Timothy M. Welsh, and his wife Erin Boles Welsh, of Dedham, MA, and W. David Linsley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three precious great-grandchildren, Thomas, Amelia, and Keira Welsh; many nieces and nephews, and her dear cousin Donna Ball Lombardi.

In addition to her husband, Helen was predeceased by her son-in law John J. French, brothers-in law Harry, Lawrence, James and Francis Welsh and John Senesky and sisters-in-laws Elizabeth (Welsh) Senesky, Marie Welsh, Elizabeth Welsh, Ellen Welsh and Margaret Welsh, as well as many cherished members of her family and friends, including her life-long friend Joan Q. Byrne, and cousins Margaret Ball Smith, Margaret Nagel, Helen M. Sober, and Ann H. Dalton.

Helen was a proud graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1944, and worked for the New York State Department of Higher Education in the Tuition Assistance Program, retiring in 1990. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was blessed to spend her final years at the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence where the staff became extended members of her family and cared for her as their own, and our family cannot begin to thank everyone in that community for the love and care they showed to Helen over the past six years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Helen on Thursday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church in Loudonville, where Helen was a parishioner for 45 years. Interment will be with her husband in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Pius beginning at 10:00 a.m., immediately preceding her funeral.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Central High School, 625 7th Avenue, Troy, NY 12182 or to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
