Obituary for Richard Joseph Kent Sr.

LATHAM – Richard J. Kent, Sr., 77, passed from this life on Friday, February 11, 2022 surrounded with the love of his family.

Born in Albany on February 23, 1944, Richard was the son of the late William J. and Gertrude (Weaver) Kent.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.

Richard was retired from the Albany County Nursing Home where he worked as the laundry superintendent for 23 years (May 1974-August 1997). Prior to his employment with the nursing home, he worked at Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Richard was artistic. He was an avid guitar player and played with many local bands over the years. He enjoyed drawing and woodworking. He also enjoyed thoroughbred race horses. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna L. (Newman) Kent; his son, Richard J. Kent, Jr. (Briana Klender); his daughter, Michelle Tober (David Tober); his grandson, Richard J. Kent, III. He was a godfather to four godchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Kent (late Ramona).

A service for Richard will be celebrated by the Reverend Edward Kacerguis on Wednesday at 10 am in the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road in Latham and interment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited and may also visit with Richard’s family on Tuesday, from 4 until 7 pm at the funeral home. Wearing of facemasks while in the funeral home will be required as requested by the family.
