Obituary for Barbara J. "Bobbie" Prentice (Finlan)

GREEN ISLAND – Barbara J. “Bobbie” Finlan Prentice, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, February 26, 2022 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany with her daughter by her side.

She was born in Troy on February 21, 1953, the daughter of the late Matthew J. Finlan and Marguerite Joyce Fonda Finlan. Bobbie was raised in Watervliet and attended Maplewood School, School 9 and was a 1970 graduate of Watervliet High School.

Barbara started working at NY Telephone Company right out of high school and was an executive secretary for over 30 years retiring from Verizon several years ago.

She was a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, talking on the phone and she was always upbeat-always making people laugh. Most of all, she loved being around her family.

She was the beloved mother of Toni Marie Pontore (Paul Martell) of Colonie; loving sister of Maureen Riccitelli of Watervliet, Mary Beth Finlan-Diamond of Dunedin, FL and the late Thomas E. Finlan; stepmother of Rasheem Prentice; grandmother of Quavon Mair and Melia Rose Cromwell; aunt of Michelle Riccitelli, Tina Rizzo, Charlie Diamond III, Tim Diamond, Matthew and Christopher Finlan and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her first love, Anthony N. Pontore and her cherished fur baby Winston.

The funeral service will be Friday at 10 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Donald L. Rutherford officiating. Committal services will follow in Albany Rural Crematory & Chapel. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
