Obituary for John F. Moriarty

LOUDONVILLE- John F. Moriarty, 98, a resident of the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence, formerly of Castleton and Latham, died Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Albany Medical Center.

He was born in Long Beach, Long Island, NY on December 1, 1923, the son of the late John and Margaret Ward Moriarty. He was a graduate of the Long Beach High School.

John proudly served his country during World War II as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps with the 9th Fighter Squadron receiving four battle stars for valiant service in New Guinea, Netherland East Indies, Philippines, Okinawa and Japan.

He was employed by the US Postal Service for over thirty years in various positions, including postal inspector. He retired in 1979 as a manager in mail processing.

He resided with his family in Castleton on the Hudson from the 1950’s to the 1990’s before moving to Latham. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Castleton.

John wintered in Ocala, FL. He loved to golf, attend the theatre and enjoyed trips to the Saratoga Race Course in August. His Irish optimistic personality will be missed.

He is the beloved husband of Elizabeth T. Holohan Moriarty of Loudonville and the late Kathleen McHale Moriarty who died in 1986; devoted father of John G. (Barbara) Moriarty of Clifton Park and Martin F. (Debbie) Moriarty of East Greenbush; proud grandfather of Chelsea (Harry) Davis and Michelle Moriarty; great-grandfather of Max and Millie Davis. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Moriarty and his sister, Margaret Moriarty. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held privately for his family at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. His ashes will be buried in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
