Obituary for Marion Katherine Manchester
PETERSBURGH – Marion Katherine Manchester, 98, died peacefully, slipping from the bonds of earth to be with her savior Jesus in Heaven, on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Center for Living & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls.
She was born in Rensselaer, NY on August 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Monsees Trinemeyer. Her mother passed away in 1928 and due to the depression Marion and her 3 siblings were placed in the Troy Orphan Asylum. She grew up there until the age of 15 when they were all placed together in a foster home in West Stephentown. Marion was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1941, then went on to graduate from Berkshire Business College. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Montgomery Ward & Co. in Menands, and a munitions factory for the war.
In 1944 Marion married her high school sweetheart Hugh. After his military service they took over running the Manchester family farm in Petersburg. She worked hard managing the farm business, being a devoted wife, homemaker and raising their 5 children. In 1966 they had to sell the farm (presently the Broken Wheel Campground) and eventually settled into their home on Rt. 22, where she continued to live after Hugh’s death in 1997.
Marion became an active member of the Petersburgh Baptist Church and the Grafton Senior Center. She also traveled to various states to visit her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles, gardening, and crocheting afghans and hats. In her later years she made small gift boxes and book markers. Her greatest joys were in the times spent with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her desire was to be remembered as a good mother, and she was all of that and much, much more to her family.
She was predeceased by her husband Hugh L. Manchester , her youngest son James H. Manchester, and all of her siblings Bill Trinemeyer, Anne MacDonald, and Pauline Hoffman.
She was the beloved wife of Hugh L. Manchester, loving mother of Kay (late David) Mishkin of South Portland, ME, Lee (Nancy Rich) Manchester of Chesterfield, MA, Melinda (Merritt) Blalock of Wilmington, NC, Karen (Mike) DeCarlo of Petersburgh and the late James Manchester. Grandmother of Matthew and Daniel Mishkin, Adam Lanza, Elizabeth Wood, Heather French, Michelle von Schilgen, Anthony DeCarlo, and additionally 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Thomas M Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh on June 11th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Immediately followed by a funeral service at this same place with Ben Krahforst officiating.
