Obituary for Mary Carolyn Kaneg (Bott)

West Sand Lake – Mary Carolyn Kaneg, 76, passed away early Thursday morning, August 11, 2022, with her family by her side. Born in Troy on May 25, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Josephine (Stellone) Bott.

Mary grew up in Watervliet and was a 1965 graduate of Catholic Central. She then attended the Colonna Beauty School in Albany and worked as a beautician at John’s Eastgate Salon. Mary was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother who always put family first. She had a true heart of gold and always lent a helping hand to whoever needed it. Mary continuously looked after her loved ones and always made sure they had whatever they needed, especially a full belly, as she was famous for her Italian cooking. She never missed a grandchild’s school event, sporting event, or family gathering and loved spending time with those who meant the most to her. Mary and her husband enjoyed getaways with their family at their lake house on Loon Lake whenever they got the opportunity. She will certainly be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Ronald E. Kaneg, Sr., their 4 children; Ronald (Tara) Kaneg, Jr. of East Nassau, Kristin (Paul) Losavio of North Greenbush, Jennifer (Brian) Fredericks of East Greenbush, and Jeffrey (Christina) Kaneg of Brunswick, her grandchildren; Ronald Kaneg, III, Lucas Fredericks, Catherine, Carra, and Ava Kaneg, her brothers; Samuel (Rita) Bott, Herman (Carol) Bott, and Kenneth Bott, several nieces and nephews, and also by her dog, Bella. She was preceded in death by her brother William Bott.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 15 from 4 until 7 PM at Parker Bros. Memorial, Watervliet. A funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM at the funeral home with interment to follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Mary in a special way may consider a donation to Community Hospice: Gift Processing, 310 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208.
