Obituary for Barbara G. Bowen (Serlock)
LATHAM – Barbara G. (Serlock) Bowen passed from this life on August 10, 2022 at the age of 57.
Barbara was born in New York City on March 3, 1965 and was the daughter of Frank Serlock and the late Shirley (Schine) Serlock. She was raised and educated in New York City and was a graduate of Fordham University. For the past fourteen years Barbara resided in Latham.
Barbara enjoyed a long career in broadcasting and was employed as production manager for ABC News’ World News Tonight with Peter Jennings and later with Fox News where she was responsible for the start-up of two news magazine programs, Fox Files and Day One with Forrest Sawyer, until her retirement in the fall of 2001. In subsequent years, Barbara worked in developmental disabled health care in Kingston, Saugerties and the Capital District. In 2019 she retired as a home health aide.
Barbara was an avid lover of animals.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Bowen; her father, Frank Serlock; her sister, Tracy Serlock; her niece, Emily Serlock; her nephew, Eric Serlock; her cousins Arleen Clark, Karin Fine and Linda Berkowicz; her father-in-law, Arthur E. Bowen (late wife Janice); her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Cathleen Bowen. She is also survived by her canine and feline family, Shamus, Riley, Milo, Dakota and Oliver.
A service for Barbara will be held in the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Wednesday at 10 am. Interment will follow in the Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Barbara’s family on Tuesday from 4 until 7 pm at the funeral home.
