Obituary for Shane David Zyglewicz

LATHAM – Shane David “Ziggy” Zyglewicz, 50, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after being stricken at his home. He was born in Houston, TX on December 13, 1971, the beloved and devoted son of David R. “Ziggy” Zyglewicz of Latham and the late Fran Wade Zyglewicz.

He attended St. Ambrose School in Latham and was a 1990 graduate of Shaker High School where he was a standout lacrosse and football player. He held many records for his aggressive play in lacrosse and “Bled Blue” for the Bison. He went on to play lacrosse at Herkimer Community College.

Shane was the owner of Ziggy’s Sports Bar on the Latham Traffic Circle for over 14 years and later was the owner of The Lodge in East Greenbush for 7 years. Most recently, he was employed by the Town of Colonie for the Latham Water Department.

Shane was best friends with his dad “Mr. Zig” and was his caretaker. Shane loved being a dad himself to his twin boys, Cain and Cole. It brought him tremendous happiness and pride taking them fishing, camping and to all their sporting events. Shane had a heart of gold and was loved by all who knew him.

In addition to his father, he is the husband of Sharon L. Sawyer Zyglewicz; the best dad of Cain Wade Zyglewicz and Cole David Zyglewicz; dear brother of Nan Zyglewicz Brewer of Watervliet, Jimmy L. (Jill) Brewer of Marshall, TX, Johnny A. (Mary Joy) Brewer of Horatio, AK and Cheressa (Anthony) Williams of Houston, TX. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family members. In addition to his family, Shane is survived by an amazing group of beloved friends that he considered family.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Wednesday from 4-7 pm. The funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
