Obituary for William M. O'Toole

LATHAM – William Michael O’Toole, 68, died suddenly Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Albany Memorial Hospital. He was born in Albany on January 31, 1954, the son of the late William Joseph and Alfreda Swider O’Toole.

Bill was raised in Albany and was a 1972 graduate of Vincentian Institute. He later received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Siena College in Loudonville.

He was employed by New York State with the Eleanor Roosevelt OD Heck Developmental Program for many years before working for the NYS Controller’s Office and later as an internal auditor for the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation which he retired from after approximately 35 years of service with New York State.

Bill coached youth baseball and soccer in Latham at NCYBA and Latham Circle Soccer while his son Alex was growing up. He was also a member and past president of the Latham Kiwanis Club in the 1990s.

Bill was a self-taught musician while growing up and won “The Battle of the Bands” competition at VI during the 1970’s with Grand Island Transit, a “Chicago”-style band. Bill also enjoyed sketching and drawing, gathering inspiration from nature.

He was the beloved husband of 41 years of Barbara Beberwyck O’Toole; devoted father of Alexander William (Marisa) O’Toole of Loudonville; proud grandfather of Logan Alexander O’Toole; dear brother of Michael (Sue) O’Toole of East Greenbush, Tom (Patty) O’Toole of Voorheesville, John (Bev) O’Toole of Fishers, IN and Jim (Deb) O’Toole of Albany. Bill is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Saturday from 10 am – 12 noon followed by a remembrance service at 12 noon.
