Obituary for Charles E. "Skip" Kilcullen

COLONIE – Charles E. “Skip” Kilcullen, 87, formerly of Schenectady and Watervliet, died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Shaker Place in Colonie with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Troy on March 8, 1935, the son of the late George and Margaret Purcell Kilcullen. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Watervliet High School, class of 1953 where he excelled at football and track. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving in Puerto Rico. On the best day of his life, December 31, 1957, he met his future wife, Mary Anne Iachetta at a tavern in Watervliet and the rest is history.

Skip was employed by the A&P Supermarkets for over 16 years and later was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Company at the Albany Steam Station in Glenmont for 32 years before retiring in 2000. He also worked part time for the US Postal Service.

Skip lived in Watervliet until 1967 when he moved to Schenectady with his family. He has resided at the Beltrone Center for the past 4 years in Colonie. He served as a Boy Scout leader in his younger years and was a member of the Niagara Mohawk Pension Club. Skip was a devout Catholic and was a communicant of St. Mary’s and St. John the Baptist both in Schenectady and currently Christ Our Light in Loudonville.

He was a huge outdoorsman and loved camping, hiking, fishing, woodworking, traveling and mostly spending time with his family. His favorite place in the Adirondacks was Beaver River where he was named Camper of the Year on July 24, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of 63 years of Mary Anne Iachetta Kilcullen; devoted father of Mark C. (late Nadine) Kilcullen of Brant Lake, Patrick J. (Rosanne) Kilcullen of Newfane, NY, Kevin B. Kilcullen of Adirondack, Brian A. (Diane) Kilcullen of Saratoga, Eileen M. Kilcullen of Malone, Maureen J. (David) Brinkmann of Broomfield, CO and Michael A. (Tara) Kilcullen of Colonie; proud grandfather of Morgan, Alana, Claire, Sean, Emily, Delaney, Lauren, Porter, Chanel, Noah and Talan; dear brother of Sally (Larry) Warner of Los Alamos, NM and the late Mary Fredericks, Marcella Gras, Eileen Hebert, Jean Todorov, James, Richard, George, Thomas, Joan, Jane, John, Robert and Joseph Kilcullen (Madeline survives). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass will be Friday morning at 8:30 am at the Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Interment will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Thursday from 4-7 pm.

Because of cemetery restrictions for flowers and Skip’s love of children and the Adirondacks, please consider a donation to the Double H Ranch, 97 Hidden Valley Road, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.
