Obituary for Janice E. Chichester

Loudonville - Janice Elaine Chichester (nee Twiss), 93, of Loudonville Assisted Living Residences, Loudonville, NY, formerly of Delmar and Syracuse passed away on 26 September 2022.

The first of twins born on 11 August 1929 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Irving Twiss and Ruth Gertrude Hallenbeck. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald Lewis Chichester; her Twiss siblings Dorothy Olive (Isachsen), Irving Ellsworth, Edwin Hallenbeck, Herbert Stark, Anna Ruth (Bennetts), Ellen Arabelle (O’Connell), twin Joyce Evelyn (Plume); and several nieces and nephews.

Growing up on Washington Avenue, Janice attended School 16, was a congregant of West End
Presbyterian Church and graduated from Albany High in 1947 with top honors in Business. She
held several clerical positions in Albany and after moving to Syracuse in the 1950’s, was a
senior stenographer for NYS Department of Transportation for over 30 years, retiring in 1988.

Always busy outside of work, she penned clever greeting poems, was a very creative sewer/crafter and tackled many DIY projects! Aunt Jan and Uncle Don were favorites among many nieces and nephews, always endearing with kind words and an interest in their lives.

Janice is survived by nephews Clifford, Edwin, Michael and Herbert Twiss, Bruce O’Connell,
David Plume; nieces Ruth Munro (Isachsen), Darlene Pelletier (Twiss), Jerilyn Hall (Twiss),
Marsha Goodwin (Twiss), Joan Simmons (Bennetts), Barbara Stewart (Bennetts), Deborah
Plume; and over 110 grand/great-grand/2x-great-grand nieces and nephews. So long to our beloved Twiss Family Matriach!

Friends are invited to join with Janice’s family on Saturday at 11:30 am in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Colonie where the Reverend Nick Bufano, pastor of the Newtonville United Methodist Church will officiate at a graveside service.

Donations may be made in her honor to a charity of one’s choice.
