Obituary for Stephen A. Bielawa

Maplewood – Stephen A. Bielawa passed from this life into eternal life on October 18, 2022 at the age of 73.

Stephen was born in Troy on March 12, 1949 and was the son of Frank J. Bielawa and the late Catherine (Mokay) Bielawa. He was raised and educated in Maplewood, a graduate of the Maplewood School and a 1968 graduate of Watervliet High School. He furthered his education at Hudson Valley Community College where he obtained a degree in accounting.

While attending college Stephen was employed by Joseph Chuckrow’s Sons Poultry Company and later by the Troy Record Newspaper. He was employed as a supervisor, for thirty eight years, by the Albany Felt Company in Menands and it is from there he retired.

Stephen was a licensed electrician, a member of the Boy Scouts of America, a life-member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood.

A special thank you is extended to the doctors and nurses of the intensive care unit at Samaritan Hospital in Troy for their care and dedication to Stephen and his family.

In addition to his father he is survived by his brother, Frank W. Bielawa of Helendale, California; his sister Katherine Bielawa Jurczyk (Edward) of Milford, Connecticut; nieces and nephews, James, Breanna and Kirstyn Bielawa, Brian (Michelle), Kyle and Matthew Jurczyk.; grandnephew and grandniece, Luke and Hailey Jurczyk. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held in the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Tuesday at 10 am. Archpriest Peter Olsen, pastor of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Agnes Mausoleum, Menands. Friends are invited and may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 4 until 7 pm during which time a Panakhyda service will be held at 6:30 pm.
