Obituary for Maureen A. McBain (Burke)

WATERVLIET – Maureen A. McBain, 79, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022 at her home, after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late John C. Burke and the late Marie T. Burke. Maureen was the wife of the late R. John (Jack) McBain, with whom she shared 57 loving years of marriage until his passing in 2018.

She was a 1960 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. For most of her adult life she lived in Watervliet until she and Jack moved to King Theil Senior Community in Colonie in 2017. At King Theil, Maureen quickly made many loyal friends whom she taught Mah-jongg and completed seemingly endless puzzles.

She was co-owner of McBain Contracting, working alongside Jack for many years. She and Jack enjoyed touring the country in their motorhome where she served as Jack’s co-pilot and guide. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Maureen is predeceased by her son, Jackie, grandson Eddie and infant grandson Christian. Also preceding her in death are her brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Thomas Burke and sister Joyce Belokopitsky.

Maureen is survived by her sons, Edward McBain (Tracie) of Saratoga and Kenneth McBain (Jennifer) of Watervliet; daughters Sheila McBain of Latham and Sandra Pembrook (Brian) of Ballston Spa; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her brother Jack Burke (Theresa) of Port Charlotte, FL and sister Janise Walsh (Frank) of Cohoes; brothers-in-law Donald McBain (late Virginia) of Troy and Michael Belokopitsky of Maplewood; sisters-in-law Patricia DeCrescenzo Burke of Watervliet, Carol Burke (Stephen “Skip” Zareski) of Cohoes and Gwendolyn Burke of Brownsburg, IN. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to especially thank the staff at Community Hospice for their loving care of Maureen over the last several months. Your compassion will never be forgotten.

Her funeral mass will be Monday at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Sunday from 3-6 pm.
