Obituary for Joseph M. DiNovo

BRUNSWICK – Joseph M. DiNovo, 93, died peacefully Monday, November 14, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Troy on March 26, 1929, the son of the late Marino “Manney” and Filomena Mango DiNovo.

He was raised in Troy and was a 1947 graduate of Lansingburgh High School. He was employed earlier in his life for Clemente Bros. Concrete, G. F. Wertime Construction and S.H. Fane Construction.

He entered the US Army in 1950 serving in Frankfurt, Germany following the destruction of World War II. He would often sneak out to bring food and candy to the children in the war torn areas.

After serving his country, he returned home and worked as a union bricklayer for Bricklayers & Allied Craftsman Local #2 based in Albany. He also worked with his two sons for DiNovo Masonry until his early 80’s and owned his own business and truck, JMD Gravel Delivery.

Joe enjoyed boating, casino trips and vacating in Myrtle Beach. He cherished his coffee stops at Duncan Dairy Bar and Dunkin Donuts with his boys. He loved animals especially his cats and dogs.

He was the beloved husband of 65 years of the late Francesca “Gina” Longo DiNovo who died in 2017; devoted father of Mario J. (Mary Valenty) DiNovo and Joseph F. (Karen) DiNovo both of Cropseyville and Maria F. DiNovo (John Popson) of Albany; cousin of Jacqueline DiNovo Wendell of Poestenkill. He was predeceased by his siblings, Samuel and Dominick DiNovo and Mary Mantello, his niece, Mary Ann Spain and his nephew, Paul J. Mantello. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the PARKER BROS. MEMORIAL, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday from 10-11 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph M. Roglieri, Dr. Ronald V. Musto and the Community Hospice. We would also like to thank all of the dedicated nurse’s aides that cared for dad.
