Obituary for Francis E. "Frank" Halligan

WATERVLIET – Francis “Frank” Edward Battige Halligan, 68, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Albany Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born in Albany on September 26, 1954, the son of the late Henry J. Halligan and Elvia Bolia Keeshan. He was the adopted son of the late John Richard Battige and Barbara Foley Battige.

Frank was raised in Watervliet and was a 1974 graduate of Watervliet High School. He later attended Hudson Valley Community College and served in the US Army. Frank lived in Plattsburgh for many years before moving home to Watervliet.

He was employed as a janitor at Watervliet High School and later worked for Walmart in Plattsburgh and Albany in the dairy department. He also worked security at Tobin Packing Company.

Frank was very artistic, enjoyed crossword puzzles and had the neatest handwriting. He was a fan of the Miami Dolphins, NY Mets and Notre Dame football.

His wish was to one day go to Ireland. He loved animals especially his cat Dolly.

He was the beloved husband of 43 years of Debra Ann McGowan Battige; father of Frank Edward Battige (Ann Kessler) of Plattsburgh and Joseph Ray Battige (Nichole Louis) of Albany; grandfather of Christian, Alexis, Liam, Nolan and Evelyn; dear brother of Henry (Trish) Battige Halligan of Halfmoon, Susan Battige (Mark James) of Hannacroix, Mary Ann Wieland of North Carolina, Patricia Head and Dawn (Robert) Rosen both of Florida and the late Dennis Keeshan. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, 1 grandniece, 1 grandnephew and several cousins.

Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Saturday, November 26 from 1:00-2:30 pm followed by the funeral service at 2:30 pm with Rev. Donald L. Rutherford, officiating.
