Obituary for Anna C. Gicobbi (Pontore)

TROY – Anna C. (Pontore) Gicobbi passed from this life at the age of 87, in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family’s love, on Thursday, November 24, 2022.

Anna was born into the large and loving family of Natale and Antoinette (Tescano) Pontare on September 26, 1935 in Troy, NY. She was raised and educated in Watervliet and moved to Brunswick following her marriage in 1962 to her husband Anthony J. Gicobbi with whom she shared 57 years of marriage before his passing in 2019. In 1997 Anna and Anthony relocated to Watervliet where they resided until June of 2015 when they moved to their current home in Troy.

Anna devoted her married life to caring for her family and her home. She was a proud and loving wife and mother and the addition of her grandchildren and great-grandchild provided more love and joy to her life. Feeding her family was important to Anna and she loved to cook. She enjoyed visiting Italy on several occasions, “Little Italy” in New York City and more recently Wells, Maine. She was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and held a special place in her heart for Derek Jeter.

Anna was devout in her Catholic faith and was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and later Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet.

Anna was the loving mother of Philip A. (wife Kathy) Gicobbi of Eagle Mills, Dina M. Klein of Troy and Joseph P. (wife Kelly) Gicobbi of Troy; cherished grandmother of Brianna (husband Sam), Katlyn, Joelle, Peyton, Brett and Larry; proud great-grandmother of Landon Joseph. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to visit with Anna’s family on Tuesday from 11 am until 12:30 pm at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. A prayer service by the Reverend Donald L. Rutherford will conclude the visiting at 12:30pm and the Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
