Obituary for Jean A. Baniak (McLaughlin)

TROY – Jean Ann McLaughlin Baniak, 85, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the Albany Medical Center.

She was born in Troy on March 28, 1937, the daughter of the late George B. and Esther Jacobs McLaughlin. Jean was a lifelong resident of Troy and graduated from St. Joseph’s School in South Troy and Troy High School.

Jean was employed by the NY Telephone Company before raising her children. She returned to work for Loctite Manufacturing in Poestenkill for 15 years. After her retirement, she was employed by School 12 in Troy as a lunch lady and crossing guard. She also was a school bus monitor for Durham Transportation in the Troy City School District.

Jean was an avid reader, enjoyed talking on the phone with her sister Mickey every day and enjoyed watching TV murder mysteries, especially Monk and Murder She Wrote.

She was the beloved mother of Jeffrey A. (Diana) Baniak of El Paso, TX, Amy M. (Joseph) Vanderwerken of Penfield, NY and the late John Karol “Jay” Baniak; adored grandmother of John and Isabel Baniak and Cassandra and Zachary Opela; loving sister of Marion “Mickey” Julian of Rexford and the late Kay Baker and Margaret Smith. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Saturday, December 17th at 11:00 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Relatives and friends may call prior to the service on Saturday, December 17th from 9:30 – 11:00 am. Her ashes will be interred at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Troy following the service.
