Obituary for Elaine Janet Preissler (Parsons)

LATHAM – Elaine Janet (Parsons) Preissler passed from this life, surrounded by her loving family, on November 29th 2022 at the age of 90.

Known better as Janet she was born to loving parents Wilson A. and Marion N. Parsons in Manhattan on July 30, 1932. Janet’s formative years were spent in Queens. She was a graduate of Flushing Hospital & Medical Center School of Nursing and following her graduation worked at the hospital as a registered nurse until her marriage to Frank J. Preissler.
Frank’s career as an agent for Travelers Insurance Company required them to reside in several places before he and Janet settled in Latham more than 50 years ago. Together they raised their family in Latham and Janet devoted her time to caring for her family and home. Once her children were all in school she returned to work as a nurse at the Albany County Nursing Home and it was from there she retired following many years of service to the residents of the facility.

In her retirement years Janet continued to do that which she knew best, caring for people, and she did so for her mother who resided in Queens until her death at the age of 101 as well as for her late dog Benjie whom she loved dearly, and other family and friends. Janet had a profound effect on those she encountered and was generous with her time and money. She supported organizations that touched her soul focusing especially on those dedicated to helping children, pets and those who served in the military. She enjoyed reading, solving crosswords, crocheting, ceramics and watching soap operas. She was a huge fan of the NY Mets and Star Trek whose principal character, Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner, helped to hold her interest in the show. Above all else, Janet was devoted to her family and with the coming of each generation her heart swelled with pride. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Preissler; much loved mother of Linda S. MacDonald (Mike Walpole), Gary F. Preissler, Barbara E. Hoyt (Kevin) and the late Walter O. Preissler; cherished grandmother of Sarah Brassard (Jason), Michele Willey (Robert) Mark MacDonald, Jr. (Amber Griffin), Connor Hoyt, Faith Hoyt and late Liam Hoyt; proud great-grandmother of Coby, Jackson, Hailey, Olivia, Tyler, Claire, Allison, late Emily and a soon to be born baby boy.
