Obituary for Olga Zonitch (Seifert)

GUILDERLAND – Olga (Seifert) Zonitch, 105, died peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Teresian House in Albany with her loving daughter Judy at her side.

She was born in Manhattan, New York City on June 24, 1917 to the late Peter and Antonia Handt Seifert. She was raised in Maplewood and was a graduate of Maplewood School and Watervliet High School. Olga worked at Montgomery Ward & Company in Menands when she was younger. She later was a library assistant at Westmere Elementary School in Guilderland for over 25 years before retiring.

Olga was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a news junkie watching her favorite channel, MSNBC.

She was the beloved wife of the late William Zonitch who died in 1991; adored mother of Judy A. (Steven) Simon of Guilderland; sister of the late Daniel Seifert and Walter Shula. She is also survived by a niece, Catherine Siefert and a grandniece, Caroline Levine.

The funeral service will be Friday, January 13 at 11:00 am at St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, 21 Archibald Street, Watervliet (Maplewood) with Archpriest, Peter Olsen, Rector, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at St. Basil’s Cemetery, Maplewood. Relatives and friends may call on Friday prior to the service from 10:30-11:00 am at the church.
