Obituary for Mary Alice Nolan

Green Island - Mary Alice Nolan, 77, of Green Island and Ticonderoga, passed into eternal life on January 11, 2023. Born in Troy on January 19, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Goyette) Nolan.

Mary Alice grew up in Green Island along with her 6 siblings. She attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School and Heatly High School; and following graduation began working in the Applications Processing Department of the SUNY school system, from where she retired as a Supervisor in 2002. Mary Alice was very crafty and often used her creative talents to sew and crochet. She enjoyed trying her luck at the slots on the occasional trip to the casino, traveling with her family, summering at the family camp in Ticonderoga on Lake George, doing puzzles, playing board games, going to Bingo, and sometimes just simply going for a ride. Mary Alice’s family was her life, and while she had no children, she treated each and every niece and nephew as if they were her own. They meant the world to her, and she would do just about anything for those she loved. Her motherly compassion she brought into their lives will be remembered by every life she touched.

Mary Alice is survived by 5 siblings; Joan Kehn Powell of Latham, Shirley Swigor (John) of DeWitt, NY, Betty Jacques (Michael) of Green Island, Patricia ”Beebe” Eckels (Bob) of Colonie, and Edward Nolan (Pam) of Ticonderoga. She was the beloved “Aunt Aldie” to 17 nieces and nephews and 31 grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dennis Nolan.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 10 to 11:30 AM at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, Watervliet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday after the visitation at 12 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet, with interment following the service in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
