Obituary for Mederic J. "Med" Ethier Jr.

CLIFTON PARK – Mederic J. Ethier, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2023 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Troy on January 24, 1940, the son of the late Mederic J. Ethier, Sr. and Bertha O’Keefe Ethier of Watervliet. Med was the beloved husband of Barbara Ethier of Clifton Park.

He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy. Med proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning home following his service, he attended Russell Sage College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.

Med was a Licensed Real Estate Broker and a Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager. He was the former Vice-President and General Manager of Coldwell Banker Prime Properties of Albany and Better Homes and Garden Real Estate in Latham.

Following his real estate career, Med joined the New York State Bill Drafting Commission where he served as Senior Sales and Marketing Representative for the New York State Legislative Retrieval System until his retirement in 2005.

He was a lifelong NY Yankee fan and an avid golfer.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his three children, Dr. Kathleen Ethier (Sarah Coleman) of Atlanta, GA, Sheila Lorello (Anthony) of Melville, NY and Mederic J. Ethier III (Diane) of Loudonville. He is also survived by five step-children, Daniel Brahler (Chrissy) of Bradenton, FL, Thomas Brahler (Audrey) of Clifton Park, William Brahler (Shelley) of Saratoga Springs, Darcy Burns (Michael) of Albany and Deborah Malamood of Loudonville. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren and ten step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Jeanne Ethier Giachetti of Latham.

Calling hours will be held at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Thursday, January 26 from 4-7 pm. The Funeral Service will be Friday, January 27 at 12 noon at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2 pm.
