Obituary for Peter P. Barron Jr.

WATERVLIET – Peter P. Barron, Jr., 81, died suddenly Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He was the son of the late Peter Barron, Sr. and Eileen Matthews Barron.

Peter graduated from Catholic Central High School, Troy, class of 1959. He earned a BA degree in Business Administration from Russell Sage College in Troy. Pete was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a pitcher and played AA baseball in the minor leagues for the Dodgers.

Pete served in the US Army during the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was employed by the Norton Company/St. Gobain Abrasives, Inc. for over 30 years.

He was very passionate about sports and was a member of the Capital District Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Volleyball Associations. Pete umpired and refereed Little League, Babe Ruth, High School, College and NCAA games.

He was a member of the Latham-Colonie K of C #3394, Watervliet-Colonie BPOE #1500 Lodge and the Watervliet VFW Post #729. He was a communicant and active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet.

Pete took up golf and darts later in life and played in the Western Turnpike Golf League and Latham K of C Dart League.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Rys Barron; a son, David Barron of Scotia; daughters, Laura (Tom) Favata of Niskayuna and Danelle (Michael) Duma of Pittsfield, MA; a brother, Paul (Carolyn) Barron of Watervliet. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and first cousins.

His funeral mass will be Saturday at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Latham. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Saturday prior to the mass from 9:30-11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189 or to the Fisher House, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208.
