Obituary for Alice D. Cocca (Dingley)

COHOES - Alice D. Cocca passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023 at the Teresian House in Albany, surrounded by her adoring family. Alice was born in Cohoes, NY on July 25, 1934 to the late Hazel (Gibbs) Dingley and Frank Dingley.

Alice is survived by her adoring daughter Melissa Iveson, and loving grandsons Spencer Iveson, Connor Moise, and stepson James (Beth) Cocca. Alice is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband Louis V. Cocca, and her siblings Frank (Lillie) Dingley, Lucille (Charles) Macy, Priscilla (Bernard) Duda, Joseph (Lucille) Dingley, and her nephews Joseph Macy, Franklin Dingley, Bridget Dingley, and her loving and special niece Paula Duda.

Alice graduated from Cohoes High School in 1952. She was later employed by Barclay Home Products in Cohoes, NY as an office manager. It is there she met and married the love of her life Louis Cocca. Later they would work alongside each other at the family owned business, Cocca’s Inn and Suites in Latham, NY. Alice was an avid church goer. She was Roman Catholic, and belonged to the Holy Trinity Church in Cohoes. Alice loved being a wife and mother, but the greatest love in her life was for her boys Spencer and Connor. She loved being their grandmother, and they were her pride and joy. Alice also loved her family, and treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She remained best friends with her sisters Priscilla and Lucille right up until their passing.

Alice struggled with Alzheimer’s disease graciously for many years. It is truly one of the most horrific diseases in the world, but through it all she still managed to laugh and smile every single day. Alice will be remembered for her smile and laugh, but more importantly how she made everyone feel when they were around her, which was loved.

Special thanks to her niece Pam Roddy that visited faithfully, and also helped Alice transition peacefully into eternal life. Also a special thank you to Larry Moise who helped make sure Alice made it home for every holiday.

People often ask why visit an Alzheimer patient when they don’t know you? The answer is simple, you know them!
