Obituary for Marilyn A. "Gram" Welch (Lillis)

NORTH GREENBUSH - Marilyn A. (Lillis) Welch, lovingly known to many as “Gram”, passed from this life, surrounded by the love of her cherished family, on April 1, 2023 at the wonderful age of 92 years.

Marilyn was born into the loving family of Christopher and Helen (Ormsby) Lillis on September 17, 1930 in Troy. She was raised with her three brothers in South Troy and was a graduate of Troy High School. The wife of the late Carl B. Welch, together they raised a family and founded Welch’s Bus Company which was dedicated to the safe transportation of disabled children. Marilyn had a passion for children, working as a child caregiver and then as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She later took employment with the Eddy Geriatric Center in Troy and dedicated 33 years to assisting and caring for the elderly.

Marilyn was proud of her Irish heritage, and she enjoyed dancing, music, cats and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of the Watervliet Seniors and was a long-time parishioner of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Van Rensselaer Manor, C3 staff, especially Ebony McGill, Edie Reynolds, Trisha Lillis and Hospice for the excellent care.

Marilyn was wife of the late Carl B. Welch; mother of the late Carl C. Welch and Mary Lynn Gagnon (Welch) (Donald) and; grandmother of Carl Welch (Sherry), Matthew Welch (Dionne), Eric Welch, Erin Welch, Casey Welch, Austin Gagnon (Miranda), Jill Myers (T. J.) and Victor Gagnon; great-grandmother of Alicia Miklowitz, Jessica Teal, Nathan Norwood, Garrett Norwood and Mason Myers; sister of the late the late Gerard J Lillis, John C. Lillis and the late Edward F. Lillis. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Liam T. O’Doherty, OSA, on Wednesday at 11 am in St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Troy. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Marilyn’s family on Wednesday at the Parker Bros. Memorial, Watervliet (prior to the Mass) from 9 until 10 am.

Donations may be made, in recognition of Marilyn’s love for Cats, to The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
