Obituary for Helen T. Connery (Mendonca)

GREEN ISLAND - Helen T. (Mendonca) Connery, age 96, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Helen was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to loving parents Arthur and Emma (Sylvia) Mendonca who were of Portuguese decent from the Azores Islands. She was a resident of Green Island since the age of eight. She graduated from Heatly High School and Royal Academy Beauty School. She was employed as a cosmetologist for 36 years at Joseph’s Beauty Salon in Troy.

Helen was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Altar Rosary society. She also enjoyed bowling, membership in the Watervliet Lodge of Elks Auxiliary and the Green Island Senior Citizens. She was a former treasurer of the Troy Area Hairdressers Association and a former member of St. Joseph’s School Mother’s Club in Green Island. She will be remembered by all for her kind soul and her kind, supportive and generous ways. The door of her home was always open to those who needed someone to speak to or a shoulder to lean on. She will be missed by everyone whose heart she touched, especially her family whom she showered with love.

She was the wife of the late Raymond A. Connery ; mother of Jeanne (Robert) Mailloux of Green Island, the late Raymond (late Sherry) Connery, late Lynne (late Donald) Carpentier and the late Susan (late Scott) Towne; former mother –in-law of Diane Wolfe whom she considered a daughter; sister of Lucille (late Frank) Lacosse, Linda Vaughn, Sandra (Richard) Polaro and the late David Mendonca whom she adopted at the age of eight; grandmother of the late Bob Mailloux (Nicole), Jeffrey Mailloux, Raymond (Jennifer) Hebert, Matthew (Constance) Hebert, Christopher (Tamara) Hebert, Colleen (Gene) Bradley and Kimberly (Fred) Amash; great-grandmother of Robert, Nicholas, Skylar, Raymond, Tyler, Brenden, Abigail, Kristina, Helena, Madison, Jayden and Chloe. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Helen’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing for their care and support during Helen’s stay.

Friends are invited to visit with Helen’s family on Thursday from 9 am until 11 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet following which a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, Watervliet. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Waterford.
