COEYMANS – Marc A. Langlais, Sergeant of the Watervliet Police Department, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. He was born in Troy on February 10, 1977, the loving son of Ronald (Tracey) Langlais of Brunswick and Maureen McLaughlin VanWormer of Selkirk.
He was a graduate of Watervliet High School and the University at Albany. Marc was a hardworker who loved his job and watching over the Watervliet community. He always knew what he wanted to do for a career following in his late grandfather's footsteps, Ned McLaughlin, WPD. whom he adored.
He was appointed as a police officer in the City of Watervliet on July 17, 2004 and was appointed to sergeant on June 29, 2015. He currently was the longest serving member in the department. He received a life-saving award in 2019 for resuscitating a woman with Narcan suffering from an opiod overdose.
He was instrumental in establishing key programs for the Watervliet Police such as the department’s body worn camera program. Since 2014, he taught countless police officer recruits from across the entire Capital Region while serving as an instructor at the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy. He also held certificates in Police Field Training Officers, NYS certified Police Instructor, Procedural Justice and Taser instructor. He currently was working toward his certification as a Master Instructor for DCJS at the Zone 5 Academy.
Marc was the beloved husband of 18 years and high school sweetheart of Elizabeth “Beth” M. Lupian Langlais; the best dad of Samuel E. Langlais and Sullivan J. Langlais; loving brother of Blaise Langlais, Jeremey and Justin VanWormer and Jennifer Barnett; nephew of Dennis McLaughlin; cousin of Kevin, Shannon and Sean McLaughlin. He loved visiting with Sean and Mercy McLaughlin and their children Dan and Caden.
Marc loved visiting Disney World and Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his wife and kids. He loved music and attended many concerts. He would celebrate Halloween the whole month of October. He was the key player on his trivia team at Warbler Brewery in Delmar where he enjoyed throwing back a pint or two. Marc will always be remembered and missed.
