Obituary for Marilyn R. Barron (Rys)

WATERVLIET – Marilyn R. Barron of Watervliet passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, April 20, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family, in the comfort of her home, at the age of 78.

Marilyn was born to loving parents Stanley J. and Bernice H. (Sefcik) Rys on November 15, 1944 in Troy. She was raised and educated in Watervliet and was a member of the graduating class of 1962 of Catholic Central High School. She furthered her education at the College of St. Rose and earned a bachelor degree in Elementary Education in 1966. A teacher, Marilyn taught in several area school districts including Watervliet City Schools and the Immaculate Conception School in Watervliet. She retired as a teacher’s assistant in 2006 from Watervliet High School.

Marilyn was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Watervliet where she taught faith formation and first communion classes for 23 years. She currently was a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet where she volunteered in several ministries.

She was the loving wife of the late Peter P. Barron, Jr. to whom she was married for 55 years at the time of his passing on January 24, 2023; the loving mother of David Barron (grandsons: Christopher and Matthew), Laura (Thomas) Favata (grandchildren: Tommy, Julia (Andrew Thomas), and Dominick), and Danelle (Michael) Duma (grandchildren: Jessica, Scott, and Kevin); sister of the late Robert Rys whose wife Julie survives and sister-in-law of Paul (Carolyn) Barron. Also surviving are several cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Donald L. Rutherford on Thursday at 11:30 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet. The Rite of committal and inurnment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Watervliet. Family and friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Marilyn’s family on Thursday from 10 am until 11:30 am, (prior to the Mass) at the church.
