Obituary for Phyllis J. Lomascolo (Pecchio)

Latham - Phyllis J. (Pecchio) Lomascolo, 97, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 with her son and daughter by her side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 14, 1926, the daughter of the late Perry and Antoinette (Ruggierri) Pecchio. Phyllis grew up in Watervliet, raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Caston Valente, and late Nadine (Ruggierri) Valente and was a graduate of Watervliet High School. She worked for many years at the historic Wellington Hotel in Albany, NY and was a talented student of dance, who later, after marrying her beloved husband, the late John F. Lomascolo at St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet in 1950, studied, performed and helped instruct the art of Flamenco dancing at Emma Willard in Troy, NY. She was a resident of Latham for over 62 years; she loved the stage, eventually performing in several local musicals. Phyllis was a voracious reader, especially on the topics of history and religion and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in the winter. Phyllis was devoted to the Blessed Mother and attended mass every Sunday, along with serving her family a traditional Italian dinner.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late John F. Lomascolo, the much loved mother of daughter, Donetta M. Lomascolo, and son, David J. Lomascolo and his wife, Luisa. She was the cherished Nana to her two grandsons, David J. Lomascolo Jr., (Kristin), and John S. Lomascolo, (Allison) as well as treasured Great Grand Nana to Mila, Giada and Lia Lomascolo. Phyllis’s family wishes to thank and acknowledge the dedicated nurses and staff at The Eddy Village Green, Bldg. 5 in Cohoes NY for their compassionate care and support they generously gave to Phyllis and her family. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial to which all are invited will be celebrated by Pastor Don Rutherford at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 Seventh Ave. Watervliet at 10:00am, May 3, 2023 followed by a private entombment in the Community Mausoleum in St. Agnes’s Cemetery, Menands. There are no public viewing hours in honor of a request made by Phyllis in the years prior to her passing. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phyllis’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
