Watervliet – John B. Britton, 76, passed away peacefully Sunday April 23, 2023 at Evergreen Commons after yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Troy, he is the son of the late Herman and Mildred (Benson) Britton.
John was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Elementary School and Watervliet High School Class of 1965. He worked at the Watervliet Arsenal for 10 years, numerous construction jobs and then retired from Capitaland Taxi after 20 years of service. John had a brilliant mind and an encyclopedia like memory when it came to music and baseball. His family considered him their Google before Google existed. John was an avid Oakland A’s fan.
John is survived by his daughter, Shannon Britton; his grandchildren; Amaya and Anthony Miller; his sister, Sue “Susie” (Mark) Teson; and his brother, Thomas J. (Susan) Britton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Jo-anne Britton Bergin and brother, James G. Britton.
The family would like extend a special thank you to Dr. Moon and his entire staff at St. Mary’s Hildegard Medicus Cancer Center and Dr. Kyle Denninston and staff at St. Peter’s.

Calling hours will be held at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet on Sunday April 30th from 11:00 – 12:30. A prayer service will conclude the calling hours at 12:30 pm.
