Obituary for Betty Quackenbush (Gilbert)


TROY: Betty Quackenbush, 79, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2011at the Eddy Heritage House. Born at Cohoes on August 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George J. and Norma A. Crandall Gilbert; she was raised and educated there. A lifelong Troy and Watervliet resident, she had worked for many years as a quality control inspector at the Tek Hughes Corporation in Watervliet before her retirement. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold Quackenbush, who died in 2005. Betty was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many and will be greatly missed. Throughout her life, her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them. She also was a horse racing enthusiast and enjoyed the OTB.
Survivors include her devoted daughters, Carol Mercy of Troy and Cynthia (Paul) Fitzpatrick of MD; cherished grandchildren, Charlene (Bob) Saulpaugh, Melissa (Martin Rolfe) Mercy, and Casey, Shannon and Molly Fitzpatrick and treasured great grandchildren Elijah and Joel Brennan. A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 16th at 12:30 pm at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:00 pm where she will join her beloved husband. Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 10:30am-12:30 pm prior to the service.
