Obituary for Shirley A. Flavin (Stevens)

Berlin – Shirley A. Flavin, 70, of Berlin, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Born in Troy in 1946, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Stevens.

Shirley was truly the matriarch of her family, and nothing made her happier than having a house full of family and close friends. She spent her free time enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Defined by her eternal love for her family, Shirley worked hard to make sure they always had everything they needed. She had too many friends to list, and would do anything for those she loved. She worked as a bus driver for Berlin Central Schools, as a construction worker for Rifenburg Construction, and also was a member of the Berlin Rescue Squad. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Shirley’s memory lives on in her loving children; Darius (Kathy) Lingener, Michel (Jen Dagnault) Flavin, Lynn (Jason) Dunteman, Dawn (Dee Johnson) Flavin, Kim Lingener, Billy (Sue) Flavin, and Bobby (Tammy) Flavin, her grandchildren; Danielle (Johnna) Thompson, Duncan (Jess Babcock) Thompson, Kianna Flavin, Kayla Lingener, Nina Flavin, Shannon Flavin, Chris Flavin, Erin Parker, Kennedy Main, Makayla Brundige, and Kayla Snyder, and her great-grandchildren; Ethan, Killian, Duncan, Kvrina, Chase, and Aaron. She is also survived by her siblings; Goldie Lohnes, Mary Higgins, Edna Hammersmith, Elton Stevens, Ike Stevens, and Jesse Stevens. Shirley was preceded in death by her dear husband, Robert Flavin, and by her brothers; Charles and Bud Stevens, her sister, Dorothy Clyde, and her grand-daughter, Jamie Lynn Flavin.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 12 noon at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh. Interment will follow in Berlin Community Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Shirley’s family at the funeral home prior to the service, from 10 AM until the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Shirley in a special way may make a donation to the Berlin Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1, Berlin, NY 12022.
