NEW LEBANON, NY – Phineas H. Stall, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Dalton, MA on September 1, 1930, the son of the late Phineas Aaron and Florence Hotaling Stall. He was raised in East Chatham and was a graduate of Chatham High School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951-52 and received 3 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was employed at General Electric in Pittsfield and Schenectady as a draftsman for 29 years before retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars in New Lebanon. He enjoyed bowling, gardening around his home, hot rods, drag racing and baseball. Most of all, he was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and attending all his grandchildren’s activities.
He is the beloved husband of 63 years to Dorothy Kraft Stall; devoted father of Bruce Stall (Adrienne Reddy) of Pittsfield, MA, Marcia (Ihor) Sowycz of Stephentown, Richard (Kim) Stall of Canaan, Philip (Lynn) Stall of Niverville. He was predeceased by his son, David A. Stall and his grandson, Kyle Sowycz. He is the grandfather of Christopher, Nicholas, Darcy, Matthew, Jennifer, Jessica, Richard Jr., Marissa, Caitlyn, Joshua and Justin; great grandfather of Jackson “Little Dude”; brother of Donald Stall of North Carolina, Harold (Myrtle) Stall of Florida, Ralph (Marge) Stall of Lebanon Springs and the late Oscar and Ken Stall. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 am at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown with his great nephew, Rev. David Stall, officiating. Interment will follow in Garfield Cemetery, Stephentown where US Army military honors will be accorded. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 pm,
